Integration

Trilium Notes integration

Trilium Notes is a self-hosted hierarchical note-taking application for building a personal knowledge base. Its ETAPI lets an agent create notes anywhere in the note tree with their content, type and MIME, search notes with Trilium search syntax (fast or full-text, archived included or not, scoped to an ancestor), read and update note metadata, clone or move notes by creating and editing branches, attach files to a note and replace their bytes, read, create, update and delete the attributes (labels and relations) that carry a note's structured data, create note revisions, reorder a parent's children, resolve the day, week, month and year notes of the built-in calendar and the daily inbox note, export a note subtree as a ZIP archive, import a ZIP archive under a note, read the application and database version, and trigger a database backup. The host is part of the credential because every install is its own deployment. Authentication is an ETAPI token created in Trilium under Options, ETAPI, sent raw in the Authorization header with no scheme.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Trilium Notes.Built from the 30 Trilium Notes tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with Trilium Notes

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Attachment, 4 operations

  • create_attachmentCreate attachmentPOSTcreate an attachment.
  • delete_attachmentDelete attachmentDELETEdeletes an attachment based on the attachmentId supplied.
  • get_attachmentGet attachmentGETReturns an attachment identified by its ID.
  • update_attachmentUpdate attachmentPATCHpatch an attachment identified by the attachmentId with changes in the body. Only role, mime, title, and position are patchable.

Attribute, 4 operations

  • create_attributeCreate attributePOSTcreate an attribute for a given note.
  • delete_attributeDelete attributeDELETEdeletes an attribute based on the attributeId supplied.
  • get_attributeGet attributeGETReturns an attribute identified by its ID.
  • update_attributeUpdate attributePATCHpatch an attribute identified by the attributeId with changes in the body. For labels, only value and position can be updated. For relations, only position can be updated. If you.

Branche, 4 operations

  • create_branchCreate branchPOSTCreate a branch (clone a note to a different location in the tree). In case there is a branch between parent note and child note already, then this will update the existing branch.
  • delete_branchDelete branchDELETEdeletes a branch based on the branchId supplied. If this is the last branch of the (child) note, then the note is deleted as well.
  • get_branchGet branchGETReturns a branch identified by its ID.
  • update_branchUpdate branchPATCHpatch a branch identified by the branchId with changes in the body. Only prefix and notePosition can be updated. If you want to update other properties, you need to delete the old.

Note, 4 operations

  • delete_noteDelete noteDELETEdeletes a single note based on the noteId supplied.
  • get_noteGet noteGETReturns a note identified by its ID.
  • search_notesSearch notesGETSearch notes.
  • update_noteUpdate notePATCHpatch a note identified by the noteId with changes in the body.

Content, 2 operations

  • set_attachment_contentSet attachment contentPUTUpdates attachment content identified by its ID.
  • set_note_contentSet note contentPUTUpdates note content identified by its ID.

App info, 1 operation

Backup, 1 operation

  • create_backupCreate backupPUTCreate a database backup under a given name.

Create note, 1 operation

Month, 1 operation

  • get_month_noteGet month noteGETreturns a week note for a given date. Gets created if doesn't exist.

Refresh note ordering, 1 operation

  • refresh_note_orderingRefresh note orderingPOSTnotePositions in branches are not automatically pushed to connected clients and need a specific instruction. If you want your changes to be in effect immediately, call this.

Revision, 1 operation

  • create_note_revisionCreate note revisionPOSTCreate a note revision for the given note.

Week, 1 operation

  • get_week_noteGet week noteGETreturns a week note for a given date. Gets created if doesn't exist.

Use Trilium Notes from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Trilium Notes in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Trilium Notes operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Trilium Notes

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Trilium Notes once

Add your Trilium Notes connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
