Google Sheets integration

Cloud-based spreadsheet service API for creating, reading, and editing Google Sheets spreadsheets. Read and write cell values, manage sheets and structure, apply formatting, handle formulas, and perform batch operations. Perfect for building data import/export tools, reporting dashboards, spreadsheet automation, and data synchronization systems.

Common Google Sheets use cases

  • logging events to spreadsheet
  • applying formatting to reports
  • updating metadata-tagged ranges
  • resetting data areas before refresh
  • clearing multiple data tables at once
  • clearing metadata-tagged temporary data
  • copying template sheets to new documents
  • creating monthly report sheets dynamically
  • creating report templates programmatically
  • importing spreadsheet data to applications

What you can do with Google Sheets

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Spreadsheet, 11 operations

  • POSTappend_values

Appends rows of data after the last row with content in a Google Sheets range. Automatically finds the end of existing data and adds new rows. Ideal for logging, data collection, and adding records without knowing the current row count.

  • POSTbatch_clear_values

Clears values from multiple ranges in a single API call. More efficient than multiple clear_values calls when clearing several areas. Preserves cell formatting while removing content.

  • POSTbatch_clear_values_by_data_filter

Clears values from ranges identified by data filters rather than explicit A1 ranges. Clear cells tagged with specific developer metadata or matching grid criteria. Enables dynamic data clearing where target locations are identified by metadata.

  • GETbatch_get_values

Reads values from multiple non-contiguous ranges in a single API call. Efficient for fetching data from different sheets or scattered ranges. Returns array of value ranges matching the requested ranges order.

  • POSTbatch_get_values_by_data_filter

Reads cell values from multiple ranges using data filters instead of explicit A1 ranges. Filter by developer metadata keys, grid ranges, or A1 notation. Returns values for all ranges matching the filters in a single request.

  • POSTbatch_update

Performs multiple structural and formatting changes to a spreadsheet in a single request. Supports adding/deleting sheets, inserting/deleting rows and columns, cell formatting, merging cells, conditional formatting, and much more. Most powerful sp...

  • POSTbatch_update_values_by_data_filter

Updates cell values in ranges identified by data filters rather than explicit A1 notation. Write to ranges tagged with developer metadata or matching grid criteria. Enables dynamic data updates where target locations are determined by metadata.

  • POSTclear_values

Clears all values from a specified range in a Google Sheets spreadsheet while preserving formatting. Removes cell contents but keeps borders, colors, and other formatting. Returns the cleared range for confirmation.

  • POSTcreate_spreadsheet

Creates a new Google Sheets spreadsheet with specified title and locale. Returns the created spreadsheet with its ID and URL. Created in the authenticated user's Google Drive.

  • GETget_spreadsheet

Retrieves complete metadata and optionally data for a Google Sheets spreadsheet. Returns spreadsheet properties including title, locale, timezone, and all sheet definitions with their grid properties. Can include cell data when includeGridData is ...

  • POSTget_spreadsheet_by_data_filter

Retrieves spreadsheet data using flexible data filters instead of explicit A1 ranges. Filter by developer metadata, grid ranges, or A1 notation. Enables dynamic data retrieval based on metadata tags rather than fixed cell positions.

Cell, 3 operations

  • POSTbatch_update_values

Writes values to multiple ranges in a single API call. Each range can have different data. Atomic operation - all ranges update together or none do. Efficient for updating multiple areas of a spreadsheet simultaneously.

  • GETget_values

Reads cell values from a specified range in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. Uses A1 notation for range specification (e.g., Sheet1!A1:D10). Returns values as 2D array organized by rows or columns. Control value formatting with render options for disp...

  • PUTupdate_values

Writes values to a specified range in a Google Sheets spreadsheet, overwriting existing content. Accepts 2D array of values organized by rows or columns. Use USER_ENTERED to parse formulas and dates like manual input, or RAW to store values litera...

Developermetadata, 2 operations

  • GETget_developer_metadata

Retrieves a specific developer metadata entry by its ID. Developer metadata allows storing custom application data (key-value pairs) attached to sheets, rows, columns, or cell ranges within a spreadsheet.

  • POSTsearch_developer_metadata

Searches for developer metadata entries matching specified criteria. Find metadata by key, value, location type, specific location, or visibility. Returns all matching metadata entries with their IDs and values.

Sheet, 2 operations

  • POSTadd_sheet

Adds a new worksheet tab to an existing Google Sheets spreadsheet. Specify sheet name and optionally customize grid dimensions. Returns the new sheet's ID and properties. Uses batchUpdate API internally.

  • POSTcopy_sheet

Copies a sheet from one Google Sheets spreadsheet to another. Duplicates all data, formatting, and formulas. Creates the copy as a new sheet in the destination spreadsheet. Returns the new sheet's properties.

Use Google Sheets from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Google Sheets in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Google Sheets operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Google Sheets

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Google Sheets once

Add your Google Sheets connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
