SearXNG integration

SearXNG metasearch API for a self-hosted instance: run a query across the engines the instance has enabled and get the merged results as JSON, plus read which engines, categories and plugins that instance offers. SearXNG deliberately exposes a very small machine-readable surface, so this integration covers the search endpoint and the configuration endpoint and nothing else. Point the credential at your own SearXNG host; no key is needed, but the instance must have the JSON output format enabled.

Ask it in chat

Say what should happen.
The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in SearXNG.Built from the 2 SearXNG tools below, on the connection you add once.

Common SearXNG use cases

  • checking which engines an instance has enabled before relying on a category
  • gathering web results for a research workflow without a commercial search API key
  • validating that a SearXNG host is reachable
  • searching news across several engines at once

What you can do with SearXNG

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Config, 1 operation

  • get_configGet configGETReturns which engines, categories and plugins a SearXNG instance has enabled.

Search result, 1 operation

  • searchSearchGETRuns a metasearch query across the engines of a SearXNG instance.

Use SearXNG from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect SearXNG in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its SearXNG operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http livecontext https://livecontext.ai/mcp --header "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"
Codex (~/.codex/config.toml)

How to connect SearXNG

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect SearXNG once

Add your SearXNG connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
