Prometheus Alertmanager integration

Prometheus Alertmanager receives the alerts a Prometheus server fires, deduplicates and groups them, and routes each group to the receivers its YAML configuration declares (email, PagerDuty, Slack, OpsGenie, generic webhooks and the rest). It is a separate process from Prometheus and answers on its own port, so it carries its own credential here. This integration covers the whole v2 HTTP API. Read the instance status: build version and revision, cluster gossip state with its peers, process uptime, and the configuration file currently loaded (Alertmanager renders every secret field in it as a placeholder, so no password or token is returned). List alerts with their labels, annotations, generator URL, fingerprint, start, end and update times, the receivers they resolve to, and a status saying whether each one is active, unprocessed, or suppressed and by which silence or inhibition rule. List the same alerts already grouped the way Alertmanager will notify on them, one group per label set with its receiver. Push alerts into the instance the way Prometheus itself does, which is how an agent raises or resolves an alert from a workflow. List the configured receivers. And manage silences, the mute rules that match alerts by label matchers over a time window: list them filtered by active, pending or expired state, read one by its id, create one, update an existing one by passing its id in the same call, and expire one early. Every listing route also accepts repeated matcher expressions such as alertname="MyAlert" to filter server-side. The host is part of the credential because every Alertmanager is its own deployment. Alertmanager has no user accounts: authenticate with the HTTP basic auth its own web configuration file enforces, or with a bearer token when the instance sits behind an authenticating proxy.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Prometheus Alertmanager.Built from the 9 Prometheus Alertmanager tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with Prometheus Alertmanager

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Silence, 4 operations

  • create_or_update_silenceCreate or update silencePOSTPost a new silence or update an existing one.
  • expire_silenceExpire silenceDELETEDelete a silence by its ID.
  • get_silenceGet silenceGETGet a silence by its ID.
  • list_silencesList silencesGETGet a list of silences.

Alert, 2 operations

  • create_alertsCreate alertsPOSTCreate new Alerts.
  • list_alertsList alertsGETGet a list of alerts.

Group, 1 operation

  • list_alert_groupsList alert groupsGETGet a list of alert groups.

Receiver, 1 operation

  • list_receiversList receiversGETGet list of all receivers (name of notification integrations).

Statu, 1 operation

  • get_statusGet statusGETGet current status of an Alertmanager instance and its cluster.

Use Prometheus Alertmanager from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Prometheus Alertmanager in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Prometheus Alertmanager operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Prometheus Alertmanager

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Prometheus Alertmanager once

Add your Prometheus Alertmanager connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
