n8n public API for a self-hosted or cloud n8n instance. List, create, update, activate, archive and delete workflows and read their versions and tags, browse and retry or stop executions, manage credentials and read a credential type's schema, drive projects, folders and their members, run data tables and their columns and rows, manage users, roles, variables and tags, read the security audit and insight summaries, configure log-streaming destinations, OIDC, SAML, LDAP and OpenTelemetry, and pull from source control. The host is part of the credential because every install is its own deployment. Authentication is an API key created in the n8n UI and sent in the X-N8N-API-KEY header.

What you can do with n8n

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.
