Integration

Grist integration

Grist documents through the REST API: list the team sites, workspaces and documents you can reach, read and write table records, inspect and create tables and columns, run a read-only SQL SELECT against a document, list attachment metadata, and download a table as CSV. Works against the hosted service and against a self-hosted Grist server, so the host is part of the connection.

Ask it in chat

Say what should happen.
The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Grist.Built from the 16 Grist tools below, on the connection you add once.

Common Grist use cases

  • pulling table rows into a workflow
  • resolving a document id from its name
  • verifying a document id before a write
  • auditing which files a document carries
  • filtering rows on a numeric or date range
  • writing collected data into a Grist table
  • building a document schema from a workflow
  • extending a table before importing extra data
  • resolving the org id before listing workspaces
  • discovering the table id before reading records

What you can do with Grist

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Record, 5 operations

  • add_recordsAdd recordsPOSTAppends records to a table and returns the row ids that were created.
  • delete_recordsDelete recordsPOSTDeletes the listed row ids from a table.
  • list_recordsList recordsGETReturns table rows as records, each with its numeric id and a fields object.
  • update_recordsUpdate recordsPATCHUpdates the listed columns on existing rows, leaving other columns untouched.
  • upsert_recordsUpsert recordsPUTUpdates the row matching require, or creates it when nothing matches.

Table, 3 operations

  • create_tablesCreate tablesPOSTCreates tables in a document and returns the ids actually assigned.
  • download_table_csvDownload table csvGETExports a single table to CSV and stores the file for downstream nodes.
  • list_tablesList tablesGETReturns the tables of a document and, with expand set, each table's columns.

Column, 2 operations

  • add_columnsAdd columnsPOSTAdds columns to a table and returns the column ids Grist assigned.
  • list_columnsList columnsGETReturns the columns of a table, each with its id and configuration fields.

Document, 2 operations

  • create_docCreate docPOSTCreates an empty Grist document and returns its new document id.
  • describe_docDescribe docGETDescribes one document, including the workspace and org it belongs to.

Attachment, 1 operation

  • list_attachmentsList attachmentsGETReturns attachment metadata records, each with the numeric attachment id.

Org, 1 operation

  • list_orgsList orgsGETReturns every organization (team site or personal area) available to the key.

Query, 1 operation

  • run_sqlRun sqlPOSTExecutes one SELECT statement against the document and returns the result rows.

Workspace, 1 operation

  • list_workspacesList workspacesGETReturns the workspaces of an org, each with its documents nested under docs.

Use Grist from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Grist in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Grist operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Grist

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Grist once

Add your Grist connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
