Common E2B use cases

  • Extend sandbox lifetime
  • AI code execution
  • Clean up resources
  • Preserve work state
  • Check sandbox status
  • Check volume details
  • Debug sandbox issues
  • Continue previous work
  • Monitor resource usage
  • Clean up unused volumes

What you can do with E2B

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Sandbox, 13 operations

  • POSTconnect_sandbox

    Connects to a sandbox, resuming it if paused, and extending its TTL.

  • POSTcreate_sandbox

    Creates a new isolated sandbox environment for running code securely.

  • GETget_batch_sandbox_metrics

    Retrieves metrics for multiple sandboxes in a single request.

  • GETget_sandbox

    Retrieves details and current status of a sandbox.

  • GETget_sandbox_logs

    Retrieves logs from a sandbox (deprecated, use get_sandbox_logs_v2).

  • GETget_sandbox_logs_v2

    Retrieves logs from a sandbox with advanced filtering (v2).

  • GETget_sandbox_metrics

    Retrieves resource usage metrics for a sandbox.

  • DELETEkill_sandbox

    Immediately terminates a running sandbox and frees resources.

  • GETlist_sandboxes

    Lists all running sandboxes for the authenticated team.

  • GETlist_sandboxes_v2

    Lists all sandboxes with pagination and state filtering (v2).

  • POSTpause_sandbox

    Pauses a sandbox, preserving its state for later resumption.

  • POSTrefresh_sandbox

    Refreshes a sandbox, extending its time to live.

  • POSTset_sandbox_timeout

    Sets or updates the timeout duration for a running sandbox.

Volume, 4 operations

  • POSTcreate_volume

    Creates a new persistent volume.

  • DELETEdelete_volume

    Deletes a persistent volume permanently.

  • GETget_volume

    Retrieves details of a persistent volume.

  • GETlist_volumes

    Lists all persistent volumes for the team.

Template, 3 operations

  • DELETEdelete_template

    Deletes a sandbox template permanently.

  • GETget_template

    Retrieves template details and build history.

  • GETlist_templates

    Lists all available sandbox templates.

Snapshot, 2 operations

  • POSTcreate_snapshot

    Creates a persistent snapshot from a running sandbox.

  • GETlist_snapshots

Use E2B from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect E2B in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its E2B operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http livecontext https://livecontext.ai/mcp --header "X-API-Key: YOUR_API_KEY"
Codex (~/.codex/config.toml)
[mcp_servers.livecontext]
url = "https://livecontext.ai/mcp"

[mcp_servers.livecontext.http_headers]
"X-API-Key" = "YOUR_API_KEY"
Cursor, Claude Desktop and other JSON configs

  "mcpServers": {
    "livecontext": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://livecontext.ai/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "X-API-Key": "YOUR_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

How to connect E2B

  1. Create your workspace

    Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect E2B once

    Add your E2B connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

    The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
