AWX integration

AWX is the self-hosted upstream of Ansible Automation Platform: a controller that stores inventories, projects, credentials and job templates and runs Ansible playbooks, ad hoc commands and multi-step workflows on a fleet of execution nodes. Launch a job template or a workflow job template with extra variables, limits, tags and survey answers, follow the resulting job, cancel or relaunch it, read its stdout, its per-event stream and its per-host summaries, approve or deny a workflow approval node, run an ad hoc module against an inventory, sync a project from source control and sync an inventory source from its cloud plugin, manage inventories with their groups, hosts, host and group variables and ansible_facts, manage projects, credentials and credential types, schedules with an rrule preview, notification templates and their test send, execution environments, organizations, teams and users, read instances, instance groups and their health, read the activity stream and the dashboard counters, and poll the ping endpoint for cluster state. This file covers the /api/v2 controller API. The host is part of the credential because every install is its own deployment. Authentication is an OAuth2 or personal access token sent as a bearer token, or HTTP basic auth with a controller user.

What you can do with AWX

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Use AWX from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect AWX in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its AWX operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

    }
  }
}

Set up the MCP server step by step

How to connect AWX

  1. Create your workspace

    Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect AWX once

    Add your AWX connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

    The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
