VAT API integration
VAT API looks up current EU VAT rates (every member state, one country by code or by IP geolocation, or the specific rate for e-books and e-newspapers), calculates the VAT on a price, validates UK and EU VAT numbers (HMRC and VIES, with a consultation number for your audit trail) and EORI customs numbers, and converts currencies at the official HMRC and European Central Bank rates. It also issues VAT-compliant invoices: create an invoice setting (the issuing business) first, then create, list, update and delete sale or refund invoices and their line items, each with a hosted invoice page. Calls go to the public global endpoint (global.vatapi.com); dedicated enterprise endpoints are not supported. Authentication is an API key from the vatapi.com account dashboard, sent in the x-api-key header.
Say what should happen.
The workflow builds itself.
What you can do with VAT API
Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.
Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.
Invoice, 4 operations
create_invoiceCreate invoicePOSTCreates a VAT-compliant sale or refund invoice from its line items; VAT API computes the line totals, discounts, VAT and totals and returns them with a hosted invoice_url to share.delete_invoiceDelete invoiceDELETEDeletes an invoice by its invoice_id.get_invoiceGet invoiceGETReturns one invoice with its issuing business, customer, line items (with their ids), computed totals and hosted invoice_url.update_invoiceUpdate invoicePATCHUpdates an invoice: send only the fields to change (dates, type, currency, discounts, customer, notes...) and, in line_items, existing items by id with their new values. Totals are recomputed.
Setting, 4 operations
create_invoice_settingCreate invoice settingPOSTCreates an invoice setting: the issuing business (trading name, address, VAT number, logo, invoice numbering) printed on invoices. Returns the identifier every create_invoice call needs. One per trading name.delete_invoice_settingDelete invoice settingDELETEDeletes an invoice setting (an issuing business) by its identifier.get_invoice_settingGet invoice settingGETReturns one invoice setting: the trading name, address, VAT number, logo and current sequential invoice number of an issuing business.update_invoice_settingUpdate invoice settingPATCHUpdates an invoice setting: send only the fields to change (trading name, address, VAT number, logo, sin), or purge_logo=true to remove the logo and show the trading name alone.
Line item, 3 operations
add_line_itemsAdd line itemsPOSTAdds line items to an existing invoice (at most 100 items per invoice) and returns the invoice's full list of line items with their ids and totals.delete_line_itemDelete line itemDELETEDeletes one line item from an invoice. The only line item of an invoice cannot be deleted.update_line_itemUpdate line itemPATCHUpdates one line item of an invoice: send only the fields to change (sku, description, quantity, price_each, discount_rate, vat_rate).
Currency conversion, 1 operation
convert_currencyConvert currencyGETConverts an amount from any published currency into GBP or EUR at the official HMRC or ECB rate, for example to state the VAT of a foreign-currency invoice in sterling.
Currency conversion rate, 1 operation
list_conversion_ratesList conversion ratesGETReturns the official exchange rates against GBP (published monthly by HMRC) or EUR (published daily by the European Central Bank), for VAT reporting in a foreign currency.
Eori number check, 1 operation
validate_eori_numberValidate eori numberGETValidates a UK or EU EORI (customs) number against HMRC (UK) or the European Commission EORI database (EU), and returns whether it is valid with the holder's name and address when disclosed.
Paginate, 1 operation
list_invoicesList invoicesGETLists the invoices of one invoice setting, page by page (limit up to 100, offset), optionally filtered by type or customer name and ordered by a date.

Use VAT API from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex
Connect VAT API in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its VAT API operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

}How to connect VAT API
- Create your workspace
Sign up free. Nothing to install.
- Connect VAT API once
Add your VAT API connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.
- Describe the job in chat
The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
