UniRateAPI integration

UniRateAPI serves exchange rates and financial reference data: live and historical rates and conversions for fiat and crypto currencies, live and historical prices of 19 commodities (precious metals, energy, base metals, crops), EU VAT rates and VAT number validation, IBAN validation, exchange trading calendars, public holidays and business days, FX spot value dates, and central bank policy rates and CPI inflation from the BIS. The free plan covers live rates, VAT rates, IBAN checks, holidays and the macro data (200 requests a day); historical data, commodities, VAT number checks and exchange calendars need the Pro plan. Only JSON answers are exposed (the XML, CSV, TSV and JSONP formats are left out). Authentication is an API key from your UniRateAPI account, sent as the api_key query parameter.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in UniRateAPI.Built from the 26 UniRateAPI tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with UniRateAPI

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Rate, 5 operations

  • get_commodity_pricesGet commodity pricesGETReturns live commodity rates against a base (from, default USD): one symbol with amount converted when to is given, otherwise all 19. A rate is units of to per one unit of from, so from XAU to USD prices gold in dollars. Pro plan.
  • get_exchange_ratesGet exchange ratesGETReturns the latest exchange rate from a base currency (from, default USD) to the to currency with amount converted, or, when to is omitted, the rates and converted amounts for every supported currency. Free plan.
  • get_historical_commodity_pricesGet historical commodity pricesGETReturns commodity rates for one past date: one symbol when to is given, otherwise all. Gold and silver go back to 1968, platinum and palladium to 1990; other commodities accrue daily from 2026-08. Pro plan.
  • get_historical_ratesGet historical ratesGETReturns exchange rates for one past date: one pair with the converted amount when to is given, otherwise every currency against the base. Needs the Pro plan (the free plan has no historical data).
  • get_vat_ratesGet vat ratesGETReturns the standard VAT rate of the 29 EU-scope countries (EU-27 plus the UK and Northern Ireland), or of one country when country is given (Greece is EL). Free plan.

Convert, 2 operations

  • convert_commodityConvert commodityGETConverts an amount between commodities and currencies at live prices, such as 1 XAU into EUR or 1000 USD into XAG; without to, converts into every commodity. Pro plan.
  • convert_currencyConvert currencyGETConverts an amount (default 1) from one currency (from, default USD) to another (to) at the latest rate and returns the converted result. Fiat and crypto codes, as listed by list_currencies. Free plan.

Exchange, 2 operations

  • get_exchange_scheduleGet exchange scheduleGETTells whether an exchange (mic) trades on a date: session open and close in local time and UTC, lunch break, early close, holiday name, previous and next trading days. Without date, adds live open status. Pro plan.
  • list_exchangesList exchangesGETLists the stock and futures exchanges (ISO 10383 MIC codes such as XNYS or XLON) the market calendar tools support, with the last date each has holiday data for. Pro plan.

History, 2 operations

  • get_inflation_historyGet inflation historyGETReturns monthly year-on-year CPI inflation of one country between start_date and end_date. Many series go back to the 1950s (US from 1914). Source: BIS. Free plan.
  • get_policy_rate_historyGet policy rate historyGETReturns every policy rate change of one central bank between start_date and end_date, plus the rate in force on start_date. Histories go back decades (US from 1954). Source: BIS. Free plan.

Holiday, 2 operations

  • list_exchange_holidaysList exchange holidaysGETLists an exchange's weekday closures (holidays), early closes and late opens in one year (default the current year), with the number of trading days. Pro plan.
  • list_public_holidaysList public holidaysGETLists the public holidays of a country (optionally a subdivision such as a state) or of a currency's settlement calendar (EUR is TARGET2) for one year, with the weekend days. Free plan.

Timesery, 2 operations

  • get_commodity_timeseriesGet commodity timeseriesGETReturns daily commodity prices between start_date and end_date (at most 5 years), keyed by date, for the symbols given (default all 19) and multiplied by amount. Pro plan.
  • get_rate_timeseriesGet rate timeseriesGETReturns daily exchange rates between start_date and end_date (at most 5 years) for a base currency, keyed by date, optionally limited to some currencies and multiplied by amount. Pro plan; 50 requests per hour.

Validate, 2 operations

  • validate_ibanValidate ibanGETChecks an IBAN's format, length, structure and check digits and splits it into bank code, branch code and account number. An invalid IBAN still answers, with valid false and a failure_code. Free plan.
  • validate_vat_numberValidate vat numberGETChecks a VAT number against the official registry (EU VIES, Norway, Switzerland) and returns whether it is valid, with the registered business name and address. UK numbers are not checked yet. Pro plan, 1,000 a day.

Business day, 1 operation

  • check_business_dayCheck business dayGETTells whether a date (default today UTC) is a business day in a country (optionally a subdivision) or on a currency's settlement calendar, with the holiday name and the previous and next business days. Free plan.

Country, 1 operation

  • list_calendar_countriesList calendar countriesGETLists the countries (with their subdivision codes) that list_public_holidays and check_business_day support, and the currencies with a settlement calendar for get_fx_value_date. Free plan.

Currency, 1 operation

  • list_currenciesList currenciesGETLists every currency code the API supports (fiat and crypto), with their count. Use it to check a code before calling get_exchange_rates or convert_currency. Free plan.

Inflation, 1 operation

  • list_inflation_ratesList inflation ratesGETReturns the latest year-on-year CPI inflation of about 65 economies from the BIS dataset, or only of the countries or currencies given, with the month it refers to. Free plan.

Limit, 1 operation

  • get_historical_data_limitsGet historical data limitsGETReturns, per currency, the earliest and latest date with historical exchange rate data and the number of days covered. Use it before get_historical_rates or get_rate_timeseries.

Policy rate, 1 operation

  • list_policy_ratesList policy ratesGETReturns the latest central bank policy rate (percent) of about 40 central banks from the BIS dataset, or only of the countries or currencies given (EUR gives the ECB rate). Free plan.

Status, 1 operation

  • get_vat_registry_statusGet vat registry statusGETReturns whether the VAT registries behind validate_vat_number are available: the VIES status of each EU member state and which registries are enabled. Not counted against any daily quota; 30 calls a minute.

Symbol, 1 operation

  • list_commodity_symbolsList commodity symbolsGETLists the 19 commodity symbols (gold XAU, silver XAG, WTI, BRENT, NATGAS, copper XCU, WHEAT, COFFEE and more) with each one's name and pricing unit. Pro plan.

Value date, 1 operation

Use UniRateAPI from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect UniRateAPI in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its UniRateAPI operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect UniRateAPI

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect UniRateAPI once

Add your UniRateAPI connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
