Prismic Types API integration

Manage the content models of a Prismic headless CMS repository with the Types API: list and read custom types (page and custom types with their tabs and field definitions) and shared slices, create new ones, overwrite an existing model with an edited copy, and delete models. Typical uses are backing up content models, syncing them between repositories, and generating code from them. This API does not read or write documents (the Content and Migration APIs) or media (the Asset API), which are served from other hosts. Authentication is a Prismic write token (Settings, API and Security, Write APIs, or prismic token create --write in the Prismic CLI) sent as a Bearer token, plus the repository name sent in the repository header.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Prismic Types API.Built from the 10 Prismic Types API tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with Prismic Types API

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Custom type, 5 operations

  • delete_custom_typeDelete custom typeDELETEPermanently deletes a custom type model from the repository by its API ID. Answers 204 with no body; a refused deletion (for example a token without write access) answers 401 or 403 with the reason in its message field.
  • get_custom_typeGet custom typeGETReturns one custom type model by its API ID: label, repeatable flag, status and the json field model. Answers 404 when no type has that ID.
  • insert_custom_typeInsert custom typePOSTCreates a new custom type model in the repository, where editors can then create documents of it; the ID is read from the body. Answers 201 with no body, or 409 when that ID already exists (use update_custom_type).
  • list_custom_typesList custom typesGETReturns every custom type model (page and custom types) of the repository as an array, each with its id, label, repeatable flag, status and json field model. Disabled types are included with status false.
  • update_custom_typeUpdate custom typePOSTOverwrites an existing custom type model (matched by the id in the body) with the complete model sent: read it with get_custom_type, change it, send it all back. Answers 204 with no body, or 422 when no type has that ID.

Shared slice, 5 operations

  • delete_shared_sliceDelete shared sliceDELETEPermanently deletes a shared slice model from the repository. Answers 204 with no body.
  • get_shared_sliceGet shared sliceGETReturns one shared slice model by its API ID, with its name, description and variations. Answers 404 when no shared slice has that ID.
  • insert_shared_sliceInsert shared slicePOSTCreates a new shared slice model in the repository, where it can then be added to custom types; the ID is read from the body. Answers 201 with no body, or 409 when that ID already exists (use update_shared_slice).
  • list_shared_slicesList shared slicesGETReturns every shared slice model of the repository as an array, each with its id, name, description and variations (field definitions and screenshot URL).
  • update_shared_sliceUpdate shared slicePOSTOverwrites an existing shared slice model (matched by the id in the body) with the complete model sent: read it with get_shared_slice, change it, send it all back. Answers 204 with no body, or 422 when no slice has that ID.

Use Prismic Types API from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Prismic Types API in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Prismic Types API operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Prismic Types API

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Prismic Types API once

Add your Prismic Types API connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
