Open Exchange Rates integration

Open Exchange Rates publishes foreign exchange rates for the world currencies, plus optional alternative, black-market and digital currencies. Get the latest rates, the end-of-day rates for any date back to 1 January 1999, a day-by-day time series, OHLC and average rates over a period, a single currency conversion, the list of currency codes and names, and your App ID's plan and monthly usage. Several routes need a paid plan (changing the base currency, time series, conversion, OHLC). Authentication is the App ID from the Open Exchange Rates dashboard, sent as the app_id query parameter.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Open Exchange Rates.Built from the 7 Open Exchange Rates tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with Open Exchange Rates

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Convert, 1 operation

  • convert_currencyConvert currencyGETConverts an amount from one currency to another at the latest rates and returns the result in response, with the rate and its timestamp in meta. Unlimited plan only. Validate the result before using it in any transaction.

Currency, 1 operation

  • list_currenciesList currenciesGETReturns every currency code available, as an object mapping each 3-letter code to its display name (AED: United Arab Emirates Dirham). Does not count toward your usage quota.

Historical, 1 operation

  • get_historical_ratesGet historical ratesGETReturns the end-of-day exchange rates for one UTC date back to 1999-01-01 (the last values published that UTC day). For today's UTC date it returns the most recent rates instead, as get_latest_rates does.

Latest, 1 operation

  • get_latest_ratesGet latest ratesGETReturns the latest exchange rates on your plan: base, a UNIX timestamp of publication and a rates object keyed by 3-letter currency code. Changing base needs a paid plan; symbols and show_alternative work on every plan.

Ohlc, 1 operation

  • get_ohlc_ratesGet ohlc ratesGETReturns open, high, low, close and average rates for one period (1m to 1mo) starting at start_time. VIP Platinum tier only. The start must be aligned to the period and the period may not end in the future.

Time series, 1 operation

  • get_time_seriesGet time seriesGETReturns daily rates between two dates (both inclusive, at most one month), keyed by date then currency. Enterprise and Unlimited plans only; each day requested counts as one request. Use symbols to keep the response small.

Usage, 1 operation

  • get_usageGet usageGETReturns your App ID's status (active or access_restricted), plan (name, quota, update frequency, enabled features) and this month's usage. Does not count toward your quota. An unlimited account reports -1 as quota and remaining.

Use Open Exchange Rates from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Open Exchange Rates in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Open Exchange Rates operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

  2. Connect Open Exchange Rates once

Add your Open Exchange Rates connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
