Navan Expense integration

Navan Expense is the REST API of Navan's corporate card and expense platform. List Navan card, Connect card and manual transactions, repayments, fees, adjustments, daily rebates, disputes and statement payments by date with approval, flag, ERP and HR filters, get one transaction with its receipt links and activity history, list company users, read accounting settings audit logs, mark transactions as synced to an ERP and set their GL code, HR fields and custom field values, and manage custom field options. Transactions, users and activities carry personal data (employee names, emails, phone numbers); the users, activities and audit log tools answer 403 for companies Navan has not enabled. Not exposed: the receipt download redirect (use the receipt links) and GL code and tax mapping management. Only US-hosted Navan accounts connect: EU accounts use another token endpoint and a region header. Authentication is OAuth 2.0 client credentials: the client ID and secret of Navan API credentials are exchanged for a 12-hour token, and updating transactions needs the Expense: Write scope on those credentials.

The workflow builds itself.

When this happens, do that in Navan Expense.Built from the 22 Navan Expense tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with Navan Expense

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Transaction, 3 operations

  • get_transactionGet transactionGETReturns one transaction of any type by its id, with no date filter needed. For many known ids use list_transactions with id instead.
  • list_transactionsList transactionsGETLists transactions of several types in one call (each item says its kind in _type), filtered by date, or fetches known transactions by repeating id (100 to 500 ids per call recommended). Paginated with cursor.
  • update_transactionsUpdate transactionsPATCHUpdates up to 100 transactions in one call: ERP sync status (SYNCED only) and external ERP references, GL code, department, region, subsidiary, cost center and custom field values. Needs the Expense: Write scope.

Custom field, 2 operations

  • get_custom_fieldGet custom fieldGETReturns the definition of one company custom field: label, type, whether required, free text allowed and follow-up field.
  • list_custom_fieldsList custom fieldsGETLists the custom fields configured for the company (trip purpose, bill to client, projects and numbered fields), with type, label, whether required and follow-up field.

Receipt, 2 operations

  • get_transaction_receipt_linksGet transaction receipt linksGETReturns presigned download links, valid 7 days, for the receipt and electronic receipt of one transaction. Fails with 404 when the transaction has no receipt.
  • list_receipt_linksList receipt linksGETLists only ids and presigned receipt links for every transaction of the given types matching a date filter; transactions without a receipt come back with null links. Paginated with cursor.

User, 2 operations

  • get_userGet userGETReturns one company Expense user by id, with email, names, HR fields, card status and admin role. Site admins are not returned.
  • list_usersList usersGETLists the company Expense users (site admins excluded) with email, names, HR fields, card status and admin role, searchable by email, name or employee ID. Paginated with cursor.

Use Navan Expense from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex

Connect Navan Expense in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its Navan Expense operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

How to connect Navan Expense

  1. Create your workspace

Sign up free. Nothing to install.

  2. Connect Navan Expense once

Add your Navan Expense connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.

  3. Describe the job in chat

The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
