MET Norway Weather API integration

Free weather data from MET Norway, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute that powers Yr: nine-day point forecasts anywhere on Earth, two-hour nowcasts and 21-day forecasts for the Nordic countries, ocean wave forecasts, sunrise, sunset and moon phases, Norwegian air quality forecasts, official weather and coastal gale warnings, and written land, coast and sea forecasts. Only the JSON products are exposed: radar, satellite and map images, GRIB and NetCDF files, the legacy XML and RSS formats, aviation text products (TAF/METAR, SIGMETs), tidal water text, test alerts and the separate Frost observations API are left out. No authentication: every request carries an identifying User-Agent, which MET Norway requires. Its terms ask for at most 4 decimals in coordinates, under 20 requests per second for the whole platform, and no repeat of the same request before its data can have changed: a point forecast stays valid for about 30 minutes, and alert lists should be polled at most every 10 minutes. A 429 answer means MET Norway is throttling; wait before retrying. Data is licensed CC BY 4.0: when showing it, credit MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute) and link the licence.

When this happens, do that in MET Norway Weather API.Built from the 25 MET Norway Weather API tools below, on the connection you add once.

What you can do with MET Norway Weather API

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Forecast status, 4 operations

  • get_location_forecast_statusGet location forecast statusGETOperational status of the MET Norway Locationforecast product (the data behind get_location_forecast_compact): returns last_update, a UTC timestamp.
  • get_nowcast_statusGet nowcast statusGETOperational status of the MET Norway Nowcast product (the data behind get_nowcast): returns last_update, a UTC timestamp.
  • get_ocean_forecast_statusGet ocean forecast statusGETOperational status of the MET Norway Oceanforecast product (the data behind get_ocean_forecast): returns last_update, a UTC timestamp.
