IONOS Hosting integration
IONOS Hosting APIs for the domains, DNS zones and SSL certificates of an IONOS customer account. Read and edit DNS records of your zones (add, update, delete, or replace record sets), list domains and read their details, contacts at IONOS and at the registry, nameservers, DNSSEC, statuses and transfers, update contacts, client statuses and DNSSEC, disable domain privacy, validate domain names and contact data before use, download a domain ownership certificate, and request, validate, inspect and unassign SSL certificates from purchased slots. Left out: Dynamic DNS (its activation returns a secret update URL), generating a new domain transfer authcode, the TLD list whose documented answer shape is contradictory, and the authInfo transfer code in domain details. Domain contacts and transfers carry personal data. Authentication is an IONOS Hosting API key sent in the X-API-Key header as public prefix and secret joined by a dot; each key is limited to 1200 requests per hour.
Say what should happen.
The workflow builds itself.
What you can do with IONOS Hosting
Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.
Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.
Certificate, 4 operations
create_certificateCreate certificatePOSTRequests a DV certificate from an unused purchased slot of that type. Without csr it is installed on the IONOS-managed site; poll get_certificate for status. EMAIL validation mails the domain hostmaster.get_certificateGet certificateGETReturns one SSL certificate: status, validation summary (method, CNAME or file content to publish, state), validity, serial number, deployment status, and the issued certificate with its CA chain.list_certificatesList certificatesGETLists the SSL certificates of the account: type, status, common and alternative names, validity, validation method and summary, deployment status and the certificate itself once issued. Paginated by page and size.unassign_certificateUnassign certificateDELETEUnassigns a certificate so its purchased slot becomes free for a new certificate. The same restrictions as in the IONOS control panel apply.
Record, 4 operations
create_recordsCreate recordsPOSTAdds DNS records to a zone and returns them with their ids; this changes the domain's live DNS. Each record needs name (full host name), type and content; ttl (3600 recommended), prio and disabled are optional.delete_recordDelete recordDELETEDeletes one DNS record from a zone; this changes the domain's live DNS.get_recordGet recordGETReturns one DNS record of a zone: name, root zone name, type, content, ttl, prio, disabled flag and last change date.update_recordUpdate recordPUTUpdates one DNS record (content, ttl, prio, disabled); this changes the domain's live DNS. The docs do not say whether a field left out is reset, so send every field you want to keep. Returns the updated record.
Zone, 4 operations
get_zoneGet zoneGETReturns one DNS zone with its records (id, name, type, content, ttl, prio, disabled, last change), optionally only records ending in suffix, with a given recordName, or of the comma-separated recordType values.list_zonesList zonesGETLists the DNS zones of the IONOS account: id, name and type (NATIVE or SLAVE). Use the id with get_zone and the record tools.patch_zone_recordsPatch zone recordsPATCHChanges live DNS: in one zone, replaces all records that share a name and type with the records sent; records with other names or types are left unchanged. Answers with no body on success.replace_zone_recordsReplace zone recordsPUTChanges live DNS: replaces ALL records of a zone with the records sent, deleting any record not in the list. Prefer patch_zone_records or create_records for partial changes. Answers with no body on success.
Contact, 3 operations
get_domain_contactsGet domain contactsGETReturns the registrant, technical and admin contacts IONOS stores for a domain (name, organization, address, phone, email). With privacy on, the registry shows other data. Personal data.update_domain_contactsUpdate domain contactsPUTUpdates the registrant, technical and/or admin contact of a domain (USER_DATA only). Each section sent must be complete; sections left out are unchanged. A new registrant email may trigger a verification email.validate_contactValidate contactPOSTChecks contact data against the rules of a TLD before use and returns the errors found, each with an error code and the fields concerned; an empty list means the contact is valid.
Dnssec, 2 operations
get_dnssecGet dnssecGETReturns the DNSSEC data of a domain: DS records (key tag, algorithm, digest type, digest) and/or DNSKEY data (flags, protocol, algorithm, public key).update_dnssecUpdate dnssecPUTReplaces the DNSSEC data of a domain using custom nameservers (not allowed with IONOS default ones). A key left out is removed; an empty secDns removes all. Returns a request id.
Domain, 2 operations
list_domainsList domainsGETLists the domains of the account with their type (DOMAIN, X_DOMAIN external, GENERIC_DOMAIN) and provisioning status, paginated with offset and limit; domainType ALL includes every type (default DOMAIN).validate_domain_namesValidate domain namesPOSTChecks a list of domain names and returns, for each name, the validation errors found (code and fields); an empty list means the name is valid.
Domainitem, 2 operations
get_domainGet domainGETReturns one domain: name, TLD, expiration and cancellation dates, privacy, domain lock, transfer lock, auto-renew and DNSSEC flags, type, and optionally its statuses. The transfer authcode is not returned.list_domain_itemsList domain itemsGETLists the domains on all contracts of the account (id, name, tld, IDN encoded name), paginated with offset and limit (default 100), filterable by tld, label, label prefix or suffix, or part of the name.
Status, 2 operations
get_domain_statusesGet domain statusesGETReturns the client statuses set on a domain (clientDeleteProhibited, clientHold, clientRenewProhibited, clientTransferProhibited, clientUpdateProhibited) with the reason, intent and dates of each.update_domain_statusesUpdate domain statusesPUTSets or removes client statuses on a domain (delete, hold, renew, transfer, update prohibited). To remove one, send value false with all of its reasons. Returns a request id.
Authentication, 1 operation
confirm_domain_validationConfirm domain validationPOSTTells IONOS that the DNS record or file for a certificate's domain validation is in place (action DCV_READY), so validation can complete. Find the authentication id in get_certificate (authenticationSummary.id).
Data quality, 1 operation
validate_uk_data_qualityValidate uk data qualityPUTAsks the registry to validate the contact data of a .uk domain that is in a Nominet data quality process (action VALIDATE).
Email verification, 1 operation
resend_verification_emailResend verification emailPUTRe-sends the verification email of a running registrant email verification of a domain (action RESEND_EMAIL) and returns the address it was sent to.
Nameserver, 1 operation
get_domain_nameserversGet domain nameserversGETReturns the nameservers of a domain (host name and, for glue nameservers, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses) and whether they are IONOS DEFAULT or CUSTOM nameservers.
Ownership, 1 operation
download_ownership_certificateDownload ownership certificateGETDownloads the PDF ownership certificate of a registered domain. Not available during a transfer out, an update in progress, the revive period or pending provisioning.
Preregistration, 1 operation
list_preregistrationsList preregistrationsPOSTLists the account's domains that are pre-registrations (registration type PREREGISTRATION), with TLD and general availability date; send itemIds to restrict to given domains.
Privacy, 1 operation
disable_domain_privacyDisable domain privacyPUTTurns domain privacy off, so the registry publishes the real contact data instead of IONOS privacy data. Only disabling is supported (enabled must be false). Returns a request id.
Quota, 1 operation
get_certificate_quotaGet certificate quotaGETReturns the SSL certificate quota of the account: total and used certificates, per-type totals and usage, and whether a flatrate item is present (flatrate certificates are counted separately).
Registrycontact, 1 operation
get_registry_contactsGet registry contactsGETReturns the registrant, technical and admin contacts as published at the registry for a domain; type PRIVATE marks privacy replacement data. Personal data.
Request, 1 operation
get_domain_requestGet domain requestGETReturns the state of a request submitted by an update tool: PENDING, RUNNING, EMAIL_VERIFICATION_PENDING, EMAIL_VERIFICATION_SUCCESS, FINISHED, FAILED or CANCELLED, with details and errors.
Tld, 1 operation
get_tld_infoGet tld infoGETReturns what a TLD supports: private registration, IDN, auth code, auto-renew, renew, transfer, restore, nameserver and glue updates, DNSSEC and its interface, client statuses and contact types.
Transfer, 1 operation
list_transfersList transfersGETLists the domains with a running transfer in or out, sorted by name: transfer type and status, start and end dates, and the registrant and FOA2 email addresses (personal data).
