currencyapi integration
currencyapi (currencyapi.com) serves real-time and historical exchange rates for fiat, precious metal and crypto currencies back to 1999, plus official central bank rates. Get the latest or a past day's rates, convert amounts, read one pair's rate, build a cross-rate matrix, ranges, OHLC candles, fluctuations and period averages, compare official rates across central banks, and list supported currencies and countries. Plans set the monthly request quota and which endpoints work: the free plan updates daily, allows 10 requests per minute and has no convert, range or OHLC (those answer 403); over the quota the API answers 429. Only successful calls count. CSV, XLSX and HTML output formats are not exposed (JSON only). Authentication is an API key sent in the apikey header.

What you can do with currencyapi
Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.
Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.
Range, 2 operations
get_official_rangeGet official rangeGETReturns every publication of one central bank between date_from and date_to (at most 366 days apart), oldest first; weekends and holidays are not filled in. Needs a plan that includes the range endpoint.get_rangeGet rangeGETReturns rates for every interval between datetime_start and datetime_end at the chosen accuracy (day, hour, quarter_hour, minute, week, month). Plans medium and up; finer accuracies need a plan with that update interval.
Average, 1 operation
get_averageGet averageGETAverages daily rates per calendar period (month, quarter, year, or total for the whole span) and reports each period's low and high. Set source to average a central bank's official rates instead.
Compare, 1 operation
get_official_compareGet official compareGETReturns one currency pair (base_currency to currency) as every central bank published it, with the highest, lowest and spread between banks. Each bank's newest publication on or before date is used.
Convert, 1 operation
get_convertGet convertGETConverts an amount (or up to 100 amounts with values) from base_currency into all or selected currencies, at the latest rates or a past date. Paid plans only (small and up): the free plan answers 403.
Country, 1 operation
get_countriesGet countriesGETReturns the list of countries known to currencyapi, including their associated currency information.
Currency, 1 operation
get_currenciesGet currenciesGETReturns metadata for all supported currencies, optionally filtered by code or type.
Fluctuation, 1 operation
get_fluctuationGet fluctuationGETReturns, for each requested currency, its rate at the end of date_from and of date_to and the change between them, absolute and in percent. Both are UTC days from 1999-01-01 to yesterday.
Historical, 1 operation
get_historicalGet historicalGETReturns the closing rates of one past day (back to 1999-01-01, yesterday at the latest). Send dates instead of date for up to 31 days at once: data is then keyed by date and each date costs one request.
Latest, 1 operation
get_latestGet latestGETReturns the latest exchange rates against base_currency (default USD) for all or selected currencies. How fresh they are depends on the plan (daily on free, down to every minute). Costs one request of the monthly quota.
Matrix, 1 operation
get_matrixGet matrixGETReturns every cross rate between 2 and 25 currencies in one request: data.EUR.USD is the price of 1 EUR in USD. Latest at the plan's update interval, or the close of a past date. Costs one request.
Official, 1 operation
get_officialGet officialGETReturns the official exchange rates one central bank (source, e.g. ecb) published for a date, or its newest publication when date is left out. Values are the bank's own figures, not market rates.
Ohlc, 1 operation
get_ohlcGet ohlcGETReturns open, high, low and close candles per hour or per day for 1 to 10 currencies over a range. Plans medium and up; hourly candles need quarter-hourly updates or finer, daily candles hourly or finer.
Rate, 1 operation
get_rateGet rateGETReturns one currency pair as a single rate: how many units of to one unit of from buys, plus the inverse. Latest by default, the close of a past date, or a moment within the plan's intraday history.
Source, 1 operation
get_official_sourcesGet official sourcesGETLists every central bank usable as source in get_official, get_official_range and get_average, with its country, region, publishing currency and history. Filter by currency or region. Free: never counts against the quota.
Status, 1 operation
get_statusGet statusGETReturns the monthly and grace quota used and remaining and the plan of the API key's account. Free: this call never counts against the quota or rate limit. Use it to check the key and the plan.
Use currencyapi from Claude Code, Cursor or Codex
Connect currencyapi in LiveContext, create an API key in Settings, then add the LiveContext MCP server to your client. Its currencyapi operations become tools the client can call, next to every other integration you connected.

}How to connect currencyapi
- Create your workspace
Sign up free. Nothing to install.
- Connect currencyapi once
Add your currencyapi connection in Settings. Every tool from this integration reuses it, and secrets are encrypted at rest and visible only to you.
- Describe the job in chat
The workflow builds itself in front of you and picks the endpoints it needs. Drag the steps yourself on the canvas whenever you would rather be explicit.
