Congress.gov API integration

Read-only legislative data of the U.S. Congress from the Library of Congress: bills, resolutions and laws with their actions, cosponsors, committees, CRS summaries, text versions and titles; amendments; members of Congress and their sponsored legislation; House roll call votes; committees, committee reports, prints, meetings and printed hearings; the daily and bound Congressional Record; House and Senate communications and House requirements; presidential nominations and nominees; treaties; and Congressional Research Service reports. Records name members of Congress, nominees, hearing witnesses and report authors as published in the public congressional record. Lists return 20 records by default and at most 250 per call (limit and offset). The rate limit is 5,000 requests per hour per key. Authentication is a free api.data.gov key (sign up at api.congress.gov/sign-up), sent in the X-Api-Key header.

What you can do with Congress.gov API

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.
