AltText.ai writes alt text for images with computer vision. Add an image by public URL or base64 data and get its alt text back (in one or several languages, with SEO keywords, an ecommerce product name or a custom rewrite prompt), scrape a web page to queue alt text for every image on it, then list, search, edit and delete the images in your library and read your account's credit usage. The API key management routes (their responses contain live key tokens) and the CSV bulk upload (a multipart file) are not exposed. Authentication is an API key sent in the X-API-Key header.

What you can do with AltText.ai

Each of these is one operation on one endpoint, available both as a workflow step and as a tool an AI agent can call on its own. Nothing bundles several operations into one action, so what a run did stays readable afterwards.

Most endpoints run on the free plan. A few, mainly the ones that publish on your behalf, need a paid plan.

Image, 6 operations

create_imageCreate imagePOSTGenerates alt text for one image (public URL or base64 data) and adds it to your library; returns asset_id and alt_text (alt_texts per language). Uses credits, except for a URL already in the library.
delete_imageDelete imageDELETEDeletes an image from your AltText.ai library by asset_id and returns the deleted image's data.
get_imageGet imageGETReturns one image of your library by asset_id: its url, alt_text, alt_texts per language, tags, metadata, created_at and any error_code.
list_imagesList imagesGETLists the images in your AltText.ai library with their asset_id, url and alt text, page by page. Filter on one exact image URL with url; use search_images to search alt text or URL substrings.
search_imagesSearch imagesGETSearches your library: q starting with http(s):// matches URL substrings, else an exact asset_id, else alt text words (supports & | and - operators). Returns matching images, page by page.
update_imageUpdate imagePUTUpdates an image's alt text, asset_id or metadata (its URL cannot change). Use lang and overwrite to choose which language's alt text is replaced. Returns the updated image.

Account, 2 operations

get_accountGet accountGETReturns your AltText.ai account settings and credit usage: name, webhook_url, notification_email, usage and usage_limit for the billing period, alt text defaults (max_chars, gpt_prompt) and the subscription plan.
update_accountUpdate accountPUTUpdates the account name, the default webhook_url (where AltText.ai posts image events) or the notification_email. Send only the fields to change inside account; returns the full account.

Page, 1 operation

scrape_page_imagesScrape page imagesPOSTScrapes the img elements of a web page (or raw HTML) and queues alt text generation for each in the background. Returns the scraped images and skip reasons, not the alt text: read it later with list_images.
